McCain just announced Sarah Palin as the VP candidate. Outstanding choice, a young, conservative, pro-life, family-minded woman. She's not afraid to speak her mind and hold her ground. Good choice.

    Mike,
Watching it now on Fox News. WOW!
  • christi · 1 year ago
It's all strategy. Not to say Palin isn't qualified as a Republican VP candidate, but don't you think McCain's strategists are also putting stock in countering the edge of the progression of an African American candidate that Obama's campaign brings by selecting a woman VP? Don't get me wrong... I'm thrilled to see both in the running in the name of progression (Not only for that reason, of course. I believe they're qualified candidates). But, I do wish I didn't feel like the strategists were playing on it so much.

    Hey Christi,
Def., strategy is heavily involved, no doubt! But I think it's good strategy - we shall see!

Christi, politics have always been about strategies.

I'm watching her speak now, and whether it's just a strategy to counter or not, she's a GREAT choice!

Definitely, a little more excited to say that I can now "lean" towards a McCain/Palin ticket instead of feeling left out in the cold.

Fred, no doubt bout it, Obama is a brilliant speaker, but I've always felt, and still did last night, that he speaks in very broad sweeps and vague motions. He paints a brilliant but broad stroke. I love hearing him speak, but always feel like he hasn't really said much after I've listened to him for an hour.

Here's to hoping we can all come together for the good of the nation and make a good choice based on issues, and not pipe dreams.

Yes politics have always been about strategy (and require it). What i meant, though, was that I wish race and gender were not part of the strategizing. I wasn't trying to make an issue of it, as it's not the central issue anyway and is inevitable. I was just pointing out the cynical way to look at this breakthrough, because sometimes (especially where politics are concerned) that's the most realistic. But, it's stil progress!
Also, I noted and will say again that she is very qualified as a candidate, as is Obama. And that's the point. And again I say I'm thrilled at the mix and the match up!

I do believe Obama talked specifically about change happening through individuals, through people, not just government. I see your point though Fred.

I was really impressed with McCain's thoughts on worship during the Saddleback interviews.

I really have not made up my mind on this one, and although I like Obama as a person, I am wary of him for the same reasons that you listed. I think McCain made a great choice for VP and that may end up swaying my vote in the end. I think there is going to have to be some major changes regardless of who gets elected!

Yep, the republican ticket looks far better to me now! I was really struggling about who to vote for, since neither Mccain nor Obama appeal to me. Obama is a great communicator, with a ton of charisma but I agree, he speaks in very vague (translation: shady) strokes! :) Just something about him that leaves me wary.

As an original Bush supporter, a woman, and a christian, I just cant vote for McCain. I strongly believe that he in no way support womens issues. I honestly believe that the VP choice was not his it was the republican strategist. Playing on those Hillary voters that refuse to vote for Obama. As an independent, I feel as though the republican party has lied to the public in so many ways I just cant trust them anymore. Anyway, I could rant for days on this subject. So thanks for the moment Fred and I know I am a minority here but its ok cause God loves me anyway...hahahaha

I will not be voting for a Pro-Choice, Pro-Gay Marriage candidate either. I just cannot go against my values, especially when it comes to lives of millions of babies.

Thanks for sharing your personal thoughts.
